Let the Light In
Melissa Schlobohm - Solo Show
September 11 - October 10, 2021
In her new body of work: “Let the Light In,” printmaker and sculptor Melissa Schlobohm continues her exploration of resin along with wood, glass, metal, mylar and their interactions with light. This collection of furniture and relief sculptures created over quarantine re-examines the dualities between interior/exterior, comfort/discomfort, joy/mourning and sentiment/novelty this span of time has posed. A cabinet made from hundreds of cigarette-butt filled blocks captures a passing of time while light only illuminates the surfaces of each encapsulated remnant. In stark contrast, the pools of iridescent light emitted by giant prismatic lenses represent a call for time to pass and ‘let the light in.’
