Gallery 1: Rainbows and Dust, Karen Allen
Karen Allen shows recent mid-to-large abstract figurative paintings counterpointed with smaller pieces that explore facets and play. In this exhibition, Allen explores the poetics of combining traditional materials such as paint and canvas with the ephemera of plastic mesh and the precious detritus that people put in the bin.
All of it is looked at as painting material. Her frequent inclusion of abandoned bits of things feeds the imagination in her visions of landscapes, figures, and anthropomorphic plants.
