Gallery 1: Daniel Berlin, Swallowing the Sun
The sun has long been used as a metaphor in the history of art. In Daniel Berlin’s new show at BAU gallery, this metaphor is extended to reflect on the mind of the artist. Swallowing the Sun refers to acknowledging one’s mind as the ground of the work. In the sun’s fire, conceptuality is burnt off and what remains is the simplicity of uncluttered experience. The show contains different groups of work in various media including painting, monoprints, watercolors, and sculpture, all of which speak to the notion of Swallowing the Sun.
