Eileen Sackman “Portraiture has been utilized throughout history to document historical events and to memorialize
the sitter. My portraits call attention to threatened and endangered animals, encapsulating their expressive nature through emotional representation. It is critical to bring awareness to species that have been brought to the brink of extinction due to human interference and have been forever impacted by these interactions.

As a life-long animal lover and advocate, my activism for all the species on the planet continues to inform my art. My creative expression articulates the care and compassion I have for the animals of the world through the universal language of the arts.

I employ the ancient technique of wood firing to further incorporate the natural elements that occur in the process, allowing for an organic aesthetic in harmony with the form.”
