August 14 - September 5, 2021
Malgorzata Oakes is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in non-toxic research for intaglio
processes. Her prints, drawings and paper installations have been exhibited in more than 100 exhibitions in museums, galleries and print shops worldwide. She is an active educator, papermaker and professional printmaker, involved in various interdisciplinary collaborative projects with her students and colleagues. Her work speaks to the sustainable mission of the arts. She travels to share her research focused on non-toxic electro-etching innovative processes within the United States and Europe. Malgorzata currently teaches at the State University of New York and resides in Hudson Valley, New York.
Malgorzata’s work primarily focuses on various traditional and innovative printmaking processes along with three-dimensional metal, and paper installations. Sustainability, waste concerns, and environmental issues are key themes in her work. The use of natural objects and repurposed elements not only advocates for sustainable methods of working with waste, but gives random objects a new meaning and a fresh story to tell. The artist’s research demonstrates that substitute materials and innovative methods can work successfully by providing visual artists with results that are the same or similar to those achieved with traditional printmaking methods. Her work offers an example of how the use of repurposed elements, waste components, and innovative methods can improve printmaking through safer creative alternatives.
