Gallery 1 and Beacon Room: Daniel Berlin
Brief Lives & Other Ruptures

An exhibition by Daniel Berlin uses painting & monotypes to illuminate the notion that when a shock occurs, one’s mind is stripped bare for a moment, and one can see a more naked, non-conceptual reality. Brief Lives & Other Ruptures offers a visual reflection of disruptions & sharp interruptions that occur in our brief lives that can either bring on despair & numbness or offer opportunities for freshness & growth. The shock that produces a gap can be seen as a favorable rupture in both life and art.

Gallery 2 Joan Harmon,
Animal Dreams

This series of work explores hybridity, seeking to capture transformations that occur when unrelated forms combine and produce something new. In sculpture, as in poetry, the function of the real and the unreal are made to cooperate, creating a new reality. The framework of these liminal spaces offers unique interpretations of the human experience and our relationship with other life forms.

Earth, fire, and water are essential to my process. These elements inform my choice of the medium, the matrix, and the imagery chosen for each series. I work with diverse materials like clay, fire, glass, and charcoal, often incorporating light and sound to create visceral, sensory experiences that are at once universal and intimate. They rely upon the intangible qualities of our human experience like memory, dream, and connection.
